Frequently asked questions
General 4
What do you offer?
I offer an integrative, holistic approach to mental health, where somatic therapy, psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment can all happen in one place, with one provider. This allows a deeper, more connected understanding of who you are and what you need. I deliberately work with a small number of patients so I can offer more than surface-level care: longer sessions, deeper listening and a thoughtful approach to everything from mood and meaning to medication and the nervous system.
What are your specialties?
I work with people navigating depression, anxiety, burnout, loneliness, difficulty connecting, trauma, ADHD and life transitions. Many of the people I see are between 18 and 50, LGBTQIA+, and identify as creatives, caregivers or deep thinkers. I also have experience working with sex workers, survivors of intimate partner violence and people who have been let down by previous mental health systems. Whoever you are, you are welcome here. See what I can help with.
Do you take insurance?
I don't accept insurance directly, but if you have out-of-network benefits I can provide a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement. To make this easier, I offer all patients complimentary access to Reimbursify, a service that streamlines insurance claims. If you're unsure whether your plan offers out-of-network cover, or how much might be reimbursed, you can check for free here.
Where can I find more information about your fees?
You'll find full details on my Service Fees page. If anything is unclear, email me at appts@modernholisticpsychiatry.com.
Pricing and Fees 4
Why are your session fees priced the way they are?
My fees reflect the depth, time and comprehensive nature of the care I provide. They also reflect the chance to do in one relationship what might otherwise mean seeing four or more different providers. Each session includes thoughtful preparation, the integration of several treatment approaches and tailored follow-up. I invest in extensive, ongoing training so your care stays current, modern and sensitive as you evolve, and you have complimentary access to technology that tracks your progress with validated tools. The structure also lets me work deeply and personally with a small number of patients, who have direct access to me, unlike with many psychiatric providers.
What are your fees for Integrative Therapy and somatic work?
The initial evaluation is $880 for 90 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes and cost $550 each. Sessions can include psychotherapy, somatic work and integrative approaches, depending on your needs.
What are your fees for Motivational Coaching?
The initial Getting to Know You session is $880 for 90 minutes. If we decide to continue, you can book a package of five 45-minute coaching sessions for $1,875. This option suits people looking for direction, accountability and goal-setting support, without deeper emotional processing.
What are your fees for Holistic Psychiatry (medication management without psychotherapy)?
The initial evaluation is $880 for 90 minutes. Follow-up sessions, typically 45 to 60 minutes, are $550. This service focuses on medication and integrative recommendations, without ongoing psychotherapy.
My Approach 10
Are you a psychiatrist?
I'm not a psychiatrist. I'm a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, fully licensed to prescribe medication, including controlled substances. I bring the clinical expertise of a medical provider together with training in psychotherapy and somatic care. Many of my patients come to me after years of rushed appointments and disconnected providers, so I've built my practice to be the opposite: unhurried, invested, connected and attuned.
How is this different from therapy or psychiatry I've had before?
I offer something rare: therapy and medical care in one place, from one person, who takes time. I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner trained in psychotherapy, somatic work and primary care, so we can go deep into your emotional world while also thinking about bloodwork, supplements or prescriptions if needed. My care is shaped by feminist thought, relational depth and real respect for your lived experience, not just diagnostic labels or quick fixes.
How is Modern Holistic Psychiatry different?
I think of the practice as a kind of small club, where I can respond to the needs of each person individually in a way that typical set-ups often can't because of burnout and time pressure. Behind the scenes I take courses and trainings, engage in supervision and keep developing what I offer so it can grow with you. I anticipate where we're heading and plan ahead, which means my commitment to your progress continues between our sessions too.
What makes your approach unique?
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I studied feminist philosophy, gender and sexuality, and worked as an advocate for survivors of violence. I've lived in countries with very different healthcare models, and I've trained in psychoanalysis, somatic practices and integrative psychiatry. All of this shapes how I listen, how I care, and how we build something that's tailored to you.
Is this work trauma-informed?
Yes. My whole approach is grounded in an awareness of trauma, both in the nervous system and in the social world we live in. That means no forced disclosures, no rushing and no assumptions. We move at the pace that feels right for your body and your story.
How do somatic practices fit in?
Somatic work means we don't only talk about feelings; we notice how they live in the body in the moment. That might involve body awareness, gentle movement or simply pausing to notice what's happening inside. A slow, titrated approach can have surprisingly large effects on your life. You'll never be pushed into anything: these practices are invitational, not prescriptive, and always grounded in consent.
Do you practise therapy with a specific ideology, such as anti-racist or feminist?
I prioritise a supportive environment rooted in autonomy, inclusivity and respect. Many of us are integrating values and lessons from different movements, life experiences and philosophies, and all of that is welcome in our sessions. I don't take on a teaching role or use calling-out techniques. Therapy can be transformative precisely because you can explore yourself, your life and your conflicts freely, outside personal, family, societal or philosophical dichotomies of right and wrong. Making room for that, for everyone who sees me, is how I see feminist and anti-racist practice working in the therapeutic space.
What clinical resources do you use?
I subscribe to UpToDate, the same clinical decision tool used in major hospitals across the country, so the treatment options I offer are grounded in current research and clinical guidance.
Do you consult with other professionals?
Yes. I'm part of a private national group of holistic and integrative psychiatry practitioners, which gives me access to collective expertise and support when it helps to think through more complex situations.
Do you have clinical supervision and continuing education?
Absolutely. I regularly take part in private and group supervision and invest in ongoing education. It's part of how I stay engaged, thoughtful and committed to offering the best care possible.
Treatment Options 5
Do you only offer medication management?
Not at all. Many people come to me for therapy or somatic work and we never use medication. Others are already taking medication and want support from someone who takes time to listen and collaborate. Whether medication is part of your care now or in the future, our work is always grounded in the relationship, not prescriptions alone.
Can I come for talk therapy only?
Absolutely. I offer several approaches, but some people prefer to start with one, including talk therapy, and I deeply enjoy that work. My style varies, but my core values are making space for new possibilities, surprising connections and the discovery of yourself and what you want from life. You always have the option to add other approaches as and when you feel ready.
Can I come for somatic work only?
Yes. Some clients prefer to focus solely on somatic work, at the start or for the long term. In my practice it's a titrated, step-by-step approach that works slowly with your mind and body to bring change to your wider life. I draw on several somatic modalities, most of all Somatic Experiencing. Early sessions often begin with simple explorations of how you currently sense and relate to your body, then build on what we discover. It can be open-ended, without a specific problem to fix, or focused on particular events, emotions or sensations.
Can I come for medication management only?
Yes, though as an integrative and holistic practitioner I'll probably want to see you more often than a traditional psychiatric provider would. We usually begin with weekly sessions and may move to monthly over time. I'm happy to discuss a reasonable timeline for your situation during our free 15-minute consultation.
What if I don't know what kind of help I need?
That's completely okay. You don't need to have it all figured out before reaching out. Many people arrive with a general sense that something isn't working, such as fatigue, anxiety or disconnection, without a specific diagnosis or goal. Our work can begin with curiosity and unfold from there.
Working Together 5
Why do you work with a small number of patients?
Because I want to offer real care. This work takes time, presence and energy, for you and for me. Keeping my caseload small means I can show up for you fully, session after session, without burnout or shortcuts. It's a sustainable model of care for both of us.
What if I already have a therapist or psychiatrist?
That's absolutely fine. I don't believe in gatekeeping or making you start over. If you already have a team supporting you, I'm happy to be part of it, and with your consent I'll collaborate with your other providers so your care feels connected rather than fragmented.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual sessions for people across New York City and New York State. Whether you have a busy schedule, live further away or simply prefer to connect from home, virtual care can be just as deep and relational as meeting in person, with some distinct advantages.
What happens after I reach out?
We start with a free 15-minute consultation to see whether we're a good fit. If it feels right, you'll receive an in-depth intake form designed to help you reflect on your past, your present and what you're hoping for. I read it carefully before we meet, so we begin from a place of connection. Book your free consultation.
How can I track my progress over time?
All patients have free access to Blueprint Clinical Health, an app and platform for tracking mood, sleep and other measures. It gives us a clearer picture of how you're doing and helps us make informed decisions together.
